TTT's Committee on Belonging Offerings

January-February 2025

The TTT On Belonging Committee is re-launching an initiative of offerings to the board, staff, artists and our beloved audiences. Every two months, we are joyfully inviting you to join in taking part in whatever capacity you hold in your busy lives. They may be a film, podcast, play, book, etc. that resonate with the work we do at TTT. 
 
 All offerings are meant to deepen, contextualize, and keep our creative pulse on what is happening in society. Our hope is that this will seep into our work and widen our world-view towards upholding TTT’s mission. And it is done with joy, inspiration, and reinvigoration. (past offerings have included: We See You White American Theatre, 6/2020, Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, and  A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota).
 
This month, you are invited to see the film Sing Sing and read the book, The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
 
Sing Sing brings to life the extremely successful Rehabilitation Through the Arts program. It is a moving and stunning film that resonates closely with the work of TTT. It features many of the men who went through the program while incarcerated and are now acting in the film as professional actors. It has been rereleased on the big screen for a limited time because it is up for many nominations. It may not be in theaters for long, so please see it on the big screen soon if you’re able.
 
The book, The Message, explores how our stories (media, imagined narratives, and mythmaking) can expose and distort our realities through a journey through Senegal, South Carolina, and Palestine.

Locations playing in MN now: it’s been re-released in theaters nationally (including St. Louis Park) because of all of the nominations it’s receiving!

You can also stream it on Apple+, however since it’s moved back into theaters, this may be postponed.
