Kira Obolensky

Kira has had the great good fortune to write five plays for the company—Raskol, Vasa Lisa, Dirt Sticks, Forget Me Not and The Changelings. Writing plays with the idea that everyone is going to be in the audience has been a profound experience for her.

Kira is an award-winning playwright and writer based in Minneapolis, MN. She was a Mellon Foundation Playwright in Residence with Ten Thousand Things Theater. She has written nine plays that perform for a wide-range of audiences, from incarcerated men and women, to a paying audience. Why We Laugh: A Terezin Cabaret performed at two international festivals. Her novella, “The Anarchists Float to St. Louis” won the Quarterly West Novella Contest, judged by Padgett Powell. Kira is a co-founder of The Gymnasium, a consortium of creative risk takers in and out of the arts. (www.thegymtc.com)
