Caitlin Lowans Named Ten Thousand Things’ New Artistic Director

Caitlin joins us in early 2025.

Ten Thousand Things Theater is thrilled to announce that Caitlin Lowans will become our new Artistic Director in early 2025. She succeeds Marcela Lorca, who announced last spring that she would step down at the end of 2024.

Caitlin has served as producing artistic director at Theatreworks Colorado Springs, the Equity theatre-in-residence at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, since 2018. She also served as the associate artistic director and director of education at Greater Boston Stage Company, as well as a freelance director, teaching artist, and dramaturg in New England.

She was introduced to TTT in 2015, and in 2017 she attended our national conference for theater professionals interested in TTT’s model of bringing high-quality theater to audiences who lack access to the arts.

Caitlin is an accomplished director whose extensive credits include a TTT-inspired community tour of ACT OUT: 2 Gents; a gender-swapped Taming of the Shrew for Theatreworks; and Rocky Horror Show for Phamaly Theatre Company, the oldest professional theatre company for actors with disabilities. Next month she will direct a production of Branden Jacob-Jenkins’s Everybody at Colorado College.

There would be no TTT without Michelle Hensley’s vision or Marcela Lorca’s extraordinary artistry, and I am thrilled that Caitlin Lowans will be the next steward of this legacy.”

In her role, Caitlin will provide leadership and vision in the areas of artistic direction and strategic planning; develop partnerships with individuals and organizations who help TTT reach non-traditional audiences; nurture relationships with TTT’s Artist Core; and collaborate with the managing director on fundraising, external relations, and staff support.

“It is not hyperbole to say that this job is a dream come true,” Caitlin says. “TTT’s model is an inspiration. The commitment to having everyone in the audience, combined with the equality the model brings to artists and audiences, is everything I want theater to be. I am so honored to serve in this position and continue Marcela and Michelle’s legacies.”
